Cats make wonderful companions for singles, divorced or widowed people, as well as for families with children who are past the toddler stage. Pet ownership has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure and improve self-esteem. Being a cat owner can teach your children to be responsible, think about "someone" other than themselves, and can instill a deep sense of empathy for others.
