| Customer Reviews: Another Great GSC Manga October 26, 2009 Sean M. Finn (Umatilla, OR) Once again another great GSC manga by Kenichi Sonoda . It's a shame there is only one more volume left. This is continuation of the last volume if can remember that far back. The V8 race that ended on a good and bad note. Bean got his money and accounts back from Det. Percy, but Rally is getting the third degree from Roy Coleman because he suspects Rally was part of it (which she was) and FBI are considering the incident an terrorist attack. Then during a job with Misty, Rally's bounty gets killed by a sniper and the two go after him and find someone that she didn't want to find. To find out more buy and read it for yourself if you haven't figured it out already (Look At the cover).
Don't Know why but Sonoda keeps his Charm October 28, 2009 Elvia Elizabeth Olvera I just finished reading the fourth book in the series, and I have to say I am surprised how long Sonoda can keep this premise going.
First off, I'm a huge fan of his work so I may be biased in this review I am giving and I have to clarify that Sonoda doesn't seem to want to end this series and for good reason. He can just come up with continual plot devices as well as giving new details on firearms making the story realistic yet enjoyable. His art seems hurried at times as if he just simply doesn't even bother with his old formula, but still for fans of his work, this is worth the long wait.
Looking forward to his next installment.
The series gets its much needed Burst February 25, 2010 Roman Martel (California USA) Being a big fan of the original "Gunsmith Cats" series back in the 90's I was very excited to see Rally and friends come back in "Gunsmith Cats: Burst". The only thing was, the stories just weren't grabbing me like the old series used to. The first book was a good intro and had some fun moments. The second book was basically about Bean Bandit, a character I liked, but not the reason I liked the series. The third book had potential, but the race never seemed to have the life or energy of the previous car chases.
I was hoping for the best, especially when I saw the familiar figure of Goldie on the cover of this book. Goldie was the best villain that Rally and May ever faced. She was relentless, ruthless, and willing to do anything to get Rally under her power. The storylines with her crackled with energy and kept you guessing just how far Goldie would go and how Rally was going to counter this. Sonoda was smart to always leave Goldie's fate in question. Because "Burst" needed a shot in the arm, and Goldie brings it.
Goldie appearing in the book does two things. It adds the emotional depth back into the story. Goldie and Rally have a dangerous history. Rally doesn't want to have to deal with Goldie again. And for a while it looks like she won't have to. Goldie doesn't seem to remember Rally at all. But things get sticky when it becomes apparent that Rally is going to have to make Goldie remember. Nothing good can come from that.
The funny thing is, while Goldie is in the book, she isn't the driving force in it. Instead there is a hitman named Black who is the antagonist. And he proves to be up to the task, doing his best to take out Rally and a whole bevy of Goldie's bodyguards. The scenes with Black taking on a mansion full of armed opponents is the highlight of the book. Sonoda gets back into the groove of cooking up fast paced and intense action scenes. Added to the mix is Goldie, a real wild card if there ever was one. What side is she gonna fall into, because the Black is after her too.
It takes a little while to get there, but this book finally delivers the "Gunsmith Cats" action and thrills in the classic style. The first two stories don't deal with this. Instead you get a epilogue of sorts for the race storyline of the previous book. It's interesting, but nothing overly compelling. Then you get a fun little one-shot with May and Becky. This has the typical mix of humor, action and a little fan service that Sonoda does so well. It's a nice break before you dive into the Black and Goldie story arc. The book wraps up with two more Sonoda specials dealing with guns and ammo.
I'd just finished reading "Cannon God Exxaxion" and was reminded how good Sonoda is when he's on target. Well I can say that this book of "Gunsmith Cats Burst" is back on target and actually has me eagerly awaiting the next book. Easily four stars.
Returning DEAD badgals is soo... October 16, 2009 T. Coleman 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
..1980s. You know, the typical Super villain double tapped / speared into the HEART who falls off ledge/balcony/cliff/ad nausaum. To later in the show/movie/book come out of the ground/ water/ dark corner and kill again at the end of the show or sequel?
The writer of this manga did just that, and I am sorry for it. Great sick twisted villain was this one in the original manga. To resurrect this one is akin to Bobby coming out of the shower and it was all a dream...
Great action as always, but this... Was too much for me. So I'll bid adieu to 'Gunsmith Cats' on this one and will never purchase this series again.
