Product Description Use it to trim out the undercoat, trim out dead hair, unravel & demat the coat. The Coat King cuts, but is better used to strip & comb out all of the dead hair. Ergonomic, extra-long, balanced wooden handle. The coarse & medium strippers are used for preparing the coat & the extra-fine is used for grooming heavy coats & is most suitable for all kinds of Spaniels & shaggy coats.

What a time saver! July 12, 2007 M. Downes (Kissimmee, FL USA) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
We have two 5-year-old cairn terriers who have always been clipped. In the last year or so I've been doing it myself because most groomers don't know how to clip cairns, but it's such a long process and neither dog enjoyed it. Then I read online that cairns are supposed to be hand-stripped rather than clipped to keep their coats healthy, but that hand-stripping is difficult to learn and very expensive to have done professionally (if you can find someone to do it).
Fortunately I noticed that many cairn owners who don't show their dogs were praising something called a Mars Coat King in lieu of hand-stripping their pets, so I investigated and decided to try it. What a difference! You simply rake the dog's coat with this tool, and all the dead hair comes out. There's very little pulling, about the same amount as brushing. In fact both dogs yawned and laid down after a while while I raked them! In just an hour I had a pile of hair from both dogs that equaled the amount I usually clip off them -- but this was dead hair, roots and all, that NEEDED to come off. And it's easy and fast compared to using the clippers.
This tool can cut hair depending on how you use it, but it's best for pulling dead hair (or "stripping"). Our two look as if they've been clipped, but without the hassle and heartache. They just need a little scissor trim around the feet, ears, rump and whiskers to finish them off.
I bought the MCK 10 blade medium and also the MCK 16 blade fine. The 10 blade works the best on my two, even though the boy has medium coarse hair and the girl has fine hair.
If you have a terrier, especially a cairn, I can't recommend the Mars Coat King enough. Treat yourself and your furry friend to this wonderful product! You might never need to break out the clippers or visit a groomer again.
A brand new dog! May 14, 2007 Stacey A. Roy 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My dog looks like a real Cairn Terrier now, instead of a brillo pad. This was very easy to use, and the dog did not mind it at all- and he usually hates being brushed. I definitely recommend it!
Lives up to the hype May 30, 2007 Sue Fitzpatrick 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
One of the best stripping tools I have used- protects the dogs skin from nicks but thoroughly removes dead hair and undercoat materials. Easy on the hands over long use
Great May 2, 2009 M. Tilro (Vancouver, Wa USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have a Border Collie. My Mars Coat King arrived today so I wanted to see how it worked. I had just groomed my dog yesterday. I could not believe the ammount of under coat I was able to remove in less then 5 minutes. I am getting a German Shepherd puppy soon and I know this will help keep my house much cleaner.
I was also amazed at the speed of the shipping. Thank you

Essential for a dog owner March 2, 2007 M. Martin (Cary, NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have one of these for each of my dogs. I have 2 border collies each with different coats. I use this one on the dog with a finer coat and the next wider spacing for the dog with a more coarse coat. At first it feels like you are "pulling" the hair out but it's actually just cutting the dead undercoat out.
After you've combed out what seems like a whole extra dog worth of hair, the dog's coat feels extremely smooth and with continued use it continues to make the dog look clean and shiny. Plus--the dogs both love to be brushed. This greatly reduces the amount of hair we find on the furniture and in the carpet.
Highly recommended product!
